Nora Roberts & Turn the Page Bookstore

For those of you who don’t know, Nora Roberts has her own bookstore in Boonsboro, Maryland called Turn the Page.  Twice a year she does a book signing there and today Rae and I went.  The deal is that you get in line (some people as early as 6am, us not so much) and at 10:00am they start handing out tickets that tell you which group your in for the book signing.  The first 50 people are allowed to buy books from home and everyone else has to buy books there in order to get them signed.  We were in group F, so we had plenty of time to wonder around and get lunch before returning to the store and getting in line to wait our turn.  The store is pretty cool.  Its not very big,  but they have the newest fiction books in one area, a kids area, one whole room of just Nora books and other fun things, and then a room with Civil War history books.  I decided to get the Chesapeake series (used to have it and it’s disappeared) and the Stanislavski series signed, so I bought those.  The down side to today’s adventure was the heat. Oh man was it hot out there!  The store didn’t have great air conditioning and we were all sweating quite a bit while we were waiting in line.  It was worth it though.  We talked to the 4 other authors that were there (Rae bought a book from each of them) and then we got to take a picture with Nora and she would sign as many books as we wanted!

This was the second time that I had seen Nora in person.  A year or so ago, my mom and I went to hear her talk at UNF in Jacksonville and then there was a book signing for the newest JD Robb book.  I also had a short conversation via blog comments during the DA BWAHA tournament.   I commented that I didn’t know the authors in the erotica section and she replied (using my name!) that she didn’t either.  It was the highlight of my month!  Anyway, it was a good time, Nora was super sweet and upbeat considering that she had been signing for a couple of hours before we got to her and I’m pretty sure that we’ll return in the fall for the next signing.  Oh, a little bit of info that I learned about her today, she grew up in Silver Spring, where I live. :)

  • I love, love, love Nora Roberts (though not her more other-wordly ones — the recent ones, not the older ones). I’m on hold for “Tribute” at the library, and keep hoping to snag what our library calls a “hot read,” with a limited number of really new/popular books on a shelf for first-come, first-served. Also like Suzanne Brockman, which I see you have further down. Let me offer this romance novel for your Sunday afternoon: “3 aces.” It gives you a truck driver who hides from the world in his cab (ex-soldier), and a poker-playing, feisty heroine running from her over-the-top mom. Throw in the dog and you’re hooked!

  • Thanks so much for your wish of ‘Good Luck’ ! I’m going to need all the luck I can get.

We didn’t kill each other today, so that’s a great start!.

Romance novels are my secret thrill. I love a great one, like a good one and just plain out enjoy the bad ones.
