The Guy I’m Not Dating By: Trish Perry

“Yowza!” exclaims Kara Richardson when she sees the handsome proprietor of the new delicatessen in town, Gabe Paolino—who soon expresses mutual interest. This would be the start of a perfect love story, except for one thing—Kara has vowed to stop dating until she feels God’s leading.

But when humorous circumstances send Kara and Gabe on a road trip to Florida, hope springs anew. Even with Kara’s flirtatious coworker Tiffany—“a hyena in heels”—along for the ride, the uncouple begins a lively journey that could change their paths forever.

This memorable, charming story of love’s persistence captures the honor of waiting on God’s timing, and the adventure of finding the perfect guy to not date.

This book was a fun read.  It was one of those books that was recommended to me by Amazon because of other books I’ve bought from them that they thought I might like and boy were they right.  Trish was able to create characters that I both cared about and enjoyed.  The story centers around Kara and her decision to put dating on hold.  She hasn’t really figured out what that means and has moments of regret about her decision when she meets Gabe. (the cute Christian man who is opening a deli in her area.) She and Gabe have to figure out together how to get to know one another while still remaining true to Kara’s decision to put a hold on dating.  The cast of characters in the book all play important roles in Kara and Gabe’s relationship and it was a entertaining ride seeing what would happen next with them.

This book ended up pertaining to me in ways that I really hadn’t anticipated.  I was looking for a fun quick read (which this was) but it was also a book that had me thinking — what would I do in that situation? Plus, it’s set in northern Virginia, right outside DC and then they travel to Miami, Florida.  Growing up in Miami and recently moving to the DC area, I got a little kick out of those coincidences.  Also unbeknown to me previously, both Kara and Gabe buy a book by “that Harris guy” about not dating.  They never specifically say if it was I Kissed Dating Goodbye or Boy Meets Girl by Josh Harris, but having just read and reviewed Boy Meets Girl, I enjoyed the connection and had an idea of what the characters were basing their plans on. (Plus it is cool to see the head Pastor from my church mentioned in a book. :)

So, if you are looking for a fun read, that shows one view on how to meet a man and begin a relationship without dating–you should check this book out.  Its not easy being a single Christian woman and trying to figure out the right way to meet a man and then have a relationship with him.  I enjoyed getting a glimpse inside another person’s head as she attempted to not date the man she liked.
