I can’t believe that I leave to go home for Christmas in less then a week! Does anyone else feel like Christmas has just sprung up out of no where this year? I still have three presents to buy (though that might wait until I get to Florida) and I have to finish the cd case calendars that I’m making for some of my friends (they are basically small desktop calendars).
My sister, Cece was in town over the weekend. We had a really nice time and kept busy. Saturday morning we met for brunch and then headed into DC to the National Gallery of Art. They have a fantastic exhibit on Pompeii right now. I would recommend it to everyone within driving distance. That evening we had Ethiopian food for dinner. (a little fun fact, DC has the largest population of Ethiopians outside of Ethiopia!) The food was definitely different. I didn’t not like it, but I don’t think that it would be my first choice either. Then on Sunday, we went to church and it was time for her to head back up to NYC. After dropping her off at the train station I headed over to Sharon’s house to bake a ton of cookies. I would have pictures, except that well — I was feeling too lazy after baking them to take a picture.
So you all will have to trust that they came out alright.
I’m still rereading the Anita Blake series and am up to the Harlequin. I’m thinking that I’ll skip the next one and just head over to Daughter of the Blood by Anne Bishop. Its been in my TBR pile for a while now and after the talk around bloglandia lately on it, I’ve decided to rush it to the top of the pile.
I hope that everyone is enjoying their week so far and remember (as I’ve had to remind myself) that this time of the year isn’t meant to drive us crazy! Its actually supposed to remind us of something that took place 2000 years ago.

It’s hard remembering to take it easy and relax during the holidays. I know I’m about to hit full-on-panic mode pretty quick. Christmas really crept up on me, too, and I have 25 guests coming to my house for both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. *sigh* I don’t know how it ended up being a week away already! eep!
I hope you have a great trip home and enjoy your cookies. =)

Thanks Holly and good luck with your crowd. I can’t imagine hosting 25 people two days in a row! Will you be the only one cooking?

I can relate. Christmas just seems to have suddenly popped up out of nowhere, which is quite a big feat considering Christmas stuff gets put out the day after Halloween nowadays. It’s just so overwhelming anymore.
I love Ethiopian food! What did you have? It is different and honestly, the first time I had it I didn’t know what to think of it. Glad I gave it another try!
Hope you have a safe and wonderful trip home for Christmas.

Nicole, we ordered a selection of veggies, some kind of chicken dish that had a hard boiled egg in it and was a brownish red sauce, and a lamb dish that I think was called Tibs. The lamb was the best.
I hope that you have a wonderful Christmas also!

Yes, I’ll be doing all of the cooking. Well, sort of. Normally my sister comes over and we do all the cooking, but she has to work this year both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, so I’m having the family bring side dishes. One of the reasons we’re doing Christmas Eve here is so I can put them all to work prepping food for Christmas day (chopping veggies, peeling potatoes, etc).
Next year I’m totally passing the buck to someone else. I’m not doing a lick of cooking OR cleaning. (And yes, I do say that every year, but I really mean it this time!)
