I am basically writing this post to give me an excuse to show you all the totally cute picture.
I haven’t read much more of the Harlequin the past couple of days because I’ve been getting ready to head out of town and because I decided to watch some tv instead.
I did however start listening to Twilight. I am still enjoying it, but I’m noticing much more that this is a young adult book. I find myself thinking things like, “what do you mean you’re not telling your dad you’re dating the crazyily dangerous vampire?!” and “seriously, being that obsessed, might not be healthy”. I’m pretty sure this new thinking is because I read to myself much faster then the tape reads to me, which provides much more time to analyze what is being said. I suppose I am an adult after all.
Anyway, if I don’t get to post again before Christmas, Merry Christmas to all of you and Happy New Year!

I found myself analyzing Twilight after I read it, too, and coming to the same conclusions you did. I’m not convinced Edward is a complete creepy stalker and Bella’s obsession with him is totally unhealthy. Sometimes it really sucks being an adult, doesn’t it?
Hope you find more time to read soon!
MERRY CHRISTMAS!

It really does.
Part of me thinks aw how sweet and it works as a young adult book, but yeah — there’s something just a little off about it.

Merry Christmas to you too! I love the pic. John and I are traveling to Ohio on Monday, but I’ve got to work tonight and tomorrow night. That just basically gives me an excuse to procrastinate and pack ON Monday a.m., instead of right now…tee hee.

Very cute picture, I wonder what that cat is thinking!
If I may play the devil’s advocate about wondering why Bella would not tell her dad that she’s dating a crazily dangerous vampire, maybe think of it as if you were a teenager thrust into this very strange world where vampires are real. She trusts Edward completely (even if that is an unrealistic and/or unproven trust) and has had a more than usually mature relationship with her parents all her life. Maybe she doesn’t even feel the need to tell her dad what’s going on.
Also, I think I personally would’ve kept up the illusion that he is a normal teenager, just for the sake of sanity!
But you’re right, in many of these YA books things (like a vampire boyfriend or an alternate universe in your closet) are kept ridiculously quiet, probably just for the sake of imagination and plot simplification. And the obsession thing in New Moon is definitely overboard. But maybe that’s why it’s called a fairy tale?

Kathy, you certainly have some good points. I hadn’t considered the fact that her relationship with her parents tends to be different. (she seemed to take care of her mom more then her mom took care of her.) Thanks for the comment!
